Update

I seem to have fallen into the ugly habit of not updating my blog, and therefore apologizing for my lack of consistency every time I do.  Annoying?  Yes.  But not as annoying as the voice in my head that keeps scolding me for every day I play hooky.  I am completely aware that some of the people close to me stay updated through this very website, so...

Yes, I am alive.
Yes, New York is still incredible.
Yes, I am insanely busy.

No, I do not have a boyfriend.
No, I can't afford to come home for Thanksgiving.
No, I haven't yet met Tina Fey or Amy Poehler (surprisingly).

Anyhow... here are some quick things on my mind:
  • I recently traveled to Doylestown, Pennsylvania to work for the Obama campaign and talk to voters face to face - incredible.  I highly recommend getting involved in this election and working on the very important battleground states!  No act is too small.  Walk door to door, make calls, or just open your home to traveling volunteers for a night.  Check out this website for more information on how to get involved.  You only have 36 days left!
  • The Karate Parade (my improv group) is getting awesomer and awesomer... we have hosted a few shows at a venue in Long Island City (first stop in Queens) to wild success and packed audiences!  I can't wait until we have a regular gig going and our name becomes more well-known.
  • My new(ish) apartment is so fantastic I can hardly handle it.
  • My good friends Natalie and Whitney left New York today to drive back to California (permanently) - they will be missed!
  • The economy is wildly scary right now, but at the same time, is it that surprisingly we're in a crisis right now?  Look at every major world power in history... maybe it's America's time to humble itself and start thinking clearly again, hopefully with Obama's guidance.  And to McCain - that's not lack of patriotism - that's REALISM.
  • I am starting two new classes at UCB in the next couple of weeks: Solo Work and Storytelling (building an individual showcase, based on my personal life) and Musical Improv 101 (exactly what it sounds like, improvising a musical).
  • I am distracted right now because I can hear a band outside playing a cover of the Star Wars theme song.
  • I am further distracted because Travis just called me and told me he booked a flight to come visit me in November (hooray!).
  • Brooke and I are attending the taping of SNL's live political special next Thursday night - SO excited!  The newest featured player (Bobby Moynihan) is a UCB-er, so I'm hoping we can pop over to say hi to him after the show!  (And possibly meet the two aforementioned female comedy superstars.)
  • Just watched an incredible documentary called "The Business of Being Born" - it's worth adding to your netflix list.  It made me cry.
  • Just watched an incredibly depressing documentary called "The Bridge" - don't add it to your netflix list, unless you want to witness a handful of people hurl themselves off the Golden Gate Bridge.  It made me sick.
  • And lastly, online dating: probably the easiest way for me to meet a potential Mr. Right.  Who has time to meet people any other way?  I gots bills to pay and people to make laugh.

this was worth five minutes of my day:

Black Holes and Revelations

I found this CNN article extremely interesting this morning, those crazy Europeans.  It is definitely advanced science, but my favorite part is imagining a black hole sucking our world inside of it... and "unlocking the secrets of the universe."
Atom smasher fired up in 'God particle' hunt
CERN, Switzerland (CNN) -- Scientists Wednesday applauded as one of the most ambitious experiments ever conceived got successfully underway, with protons being fired around a 27-kilometer (17-mile) tunnel deep beneath the border of France and Switzerland in an attempt to unlock the secrets of the universe.

The Large Hadron Collider -- a $9 billion particle accelerator designed to simulate conditions of the Big Bang that created the physical Universe -- was switched on at 0732 GMT to cheers and applause from experts gathered to witness the event....  (click the link above to read the rest of the article)

September

I seem to only get blogs written when I'm in a coffee shop.  Maybe it's something about watching other people's lives as they walk by, or maybe it's drinking coffee that I didn't brew myself.  Or maybe it's Bob Marley's voice echoing overhead?  Whatever the reason, here I am.

Sometimes it boggles my mind that I live in New York City.  When I was young, my thoughts of New York City were, "Big. Scary. Dangerous."  Now I live here, and it just feels like home.  I have my neighborhood, I see the same people all the time (Manhattan's not that big, folks!), I go to the local farmer's market... it's just like any other town, just a lot more people and things to see.

This morning is absolutely beautiful.  It's about seventy degrees outside, not a cloud in the sky.  I am sitting in the Eastern window of B-Cup, my favorite local cafe, and the sunbeams are entering through the door and warming up my feet.  It just feels so lovely right now.  Kids are on their way to school, and they're actually being walked by their parents (not nannies like in the UES).  There are business men and women hurrying to work, older couples strolling the streets, NYU students shuffling through iPhones on their way to the subway, teenagers sporting fake Gucci handbags, pet owners walking their dogs... the list goes on.

In an effort to connect with all types of people, I am actually traveling this weekend to a small town in Pennsylvania called Doylesville.  My roommate, Brooke, and I will be volunteering for the Obama campaign in registering voters and sharing all the reasons that he is the candidate to better our country.  I am so excited to meet voters and face whatever they have to dish out, whether it be support or ridicule.  I really need to memorize all the policy differences between McCain and Obama so I can fight back pointed questions.  Wish me luck.  I was a little nervous of how we would get down there, but I luckily have a friend who works for a rental car company and hooked us up with an AMAZING deal... I will be spending half what I originally thought.  Thank goodness!  On Saturday night we will be staying with a volunteer host (hopefully).  In the unfortunate circumstance that we cannot find one, we will be playing John and Mary and searching couchsurfer.com for a place to crash.  Again, wish me luck.

I just hope that wherever we stay, our hosts are Lorne Michaels fans, because I really want to watch the season premiere of Saturday Night Live!  One of the top performers at UCB was cast on as a featured player for this season, and I am so excited to see him in action!  Brooke and I both submitted our information for the ticket lottery for this season, so hopefully we can land some tickets sometime soon!  Speaking of TV, I am starting to think about how much my not having DVR anymore might affect my life.... dare I go by a blank tape and set an automatic record on the VCR?  That is so 1993.  Did anyone watch that new show "Fringe" last night?  I saw ads all over the city... wondering if it's any good.  J.J. never ceases to amaze me, so I wouldn't expect anything less than greatness.

Okay, I need get back to work... then I'm meeting up with Jess (happy birthday!) to eat our lunches at Bryant Park and gawk at all the anorexic fashion week models.  Go out and enjoy your city!
